View Full Version : Let's do a pants swap!

If you are interested in swapping pants list what size you're looking for and if you prefer knit, crochet, or if you just don't care either way.
So...let's see...post your list by 9/10 and then I'll try and match people up after that and then we can decide on a ship date. Does that sound good?
eta: also list if you prefer a certain type of wool
dandelions2

Size largish - waist = 21", thigh = 13", rise = 18 1/2", inseam = 8"
I prefer knit since ds is getting all sorts of crocheted pants from momma. :D
I'm cool with any wool...well, not superwash, but ykwim.

Ok Im thinking I could do it and I could have sworn I put his measurements but I guess not.
Right now over his bulkiest diaper he has a:
19"waist
19"rise
10.5"thigh
10"inseam
Making them bigger by a little is fine, i hate it when the diaper peeks over the top, LOL
I prefer knit in the round. No girly girl colors but I like pretty colors. Falls colors would be fine. No rolled cuffs at the legs please, ribbing is ok as long as it isnt long, just a slight ribbing.
Fishermans wool is fine or softer, I have an extreme itch problem with wool, and now Im seriously afraid DS does too.

i'm in...hopefully we will have a looooooong time to make them in. I'm a pretty slow knitter. :violin
Andrew's specs are all here: http://woolywonder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=763
I am cool with either knit or crochet pants. :D
Hmmm...fiber preference? Well, I would like them to do double-duty, as both pants and soaker, so I would prefer it to be wool. Other than that, anything the maker would be happy to put on their babe is fine with me!

Hmmm..... Trying to think. I just started a pair of F&F pants for ds, I'm taking the pants class here so I'll be starting those soon, another pair as a gift... Just wondering if I could find time to knit another pair anytime soon. :LOL
Large
waist 19-20"
rise 18.5"(higher in back, LOW front rise, if that makes sense LOL)
thighs 11-12"
hips 23-24" over a diaper.
No real fiber prefs. I like something that will hold it's shape and not be too scratchy, but those seem like givens. :LOL
I've never had crocheted pants, if they aren't really bulky I think they'd be neat... and if they're not really stiff... guess that all depends on yarn and needles and crocheter, just like in knitting...

:LOL Amy! I'm definitely in. I'm cool with either knit or crochet. Well, like Davina said, as long as it's not too bulky or whatnot. And boy or neutral colors.
Waist: 23"
Rise: 20"
Thigh: 14+"
Inseam: 15"
I promise I will knit my swap pair as fast as I can :) I also would need to know if I should use fisherman's or merino or if it's my choice.
Any wool is fine with me :)

I would LOVE to do this, but man... I just have a lot of pants I am doing for customers now... how long do you think we have to do this in?
Give me an idea, and then I will be able to let you know if I can get in.
And Amy... LOL! Thanks for pressuring me!!

Yup! I'd love to~ only I've never make any pants before. I purchased the pattern though and my 40" circs should arrive to me in a few days. But I can hardly be expected to swap some shoddy first time pair of pants.
I'll just keep browsing till the next swap comes around.

What gallery picture!?
I will start on a pair of pants today, using my Wonderpants pattern and see how they get going....I know there were lots of instructions I didn't have a clue about, but maybe like someone else said, "take it one word at a time"!
I still will sit this swap out though....I want to knit stockings for my three sons and try this pants pattern....
And my husband is going to Saudi next week with the USAF for 4+ months, so I'll consider myself 'amazing' if I finish even one of the projects on my wish list.

Why do I keep getting named? :chin
I didn't join in last time because Ben is so hard to fit and I was afraid that whatever someone sent us would not fit. But then I saw all the things you made for each other and they were so cute so I was mad at myself for not joining in.
Right now I'm making things with a 19" rise with 2 more inches in the back than in front (aka lots of short rows...6 sets on a 24 row gauge). So whoever made them for me would need to be someone who doesn't mind doing short rows.
Ben's a tricky fit on the legs too. At the moment, his thighs are 12.5 inches and his ankle is 5.5 inches with only 6 inches between. The Husker pair I'm working hard to finish to he can wear them tonight, I did my variation of Pam's crotch and then decreases every 6 rows twice, then every 4 rows twice, then I'm switching to smaller needles (from size 7 to size 5) for 1.5 to 2 inches (haven't got there yet so I don't know for sure) and then I'm going to do 1.5 inch cuffs (I think two inches on a 6 inch inseam would look kind of funny...). Once he starts walking, his thighs may slim down a bit and straight legs will be okay. But it doesn't look like he's going to be walking any time soon (hopefully by Thanksgiving, though).
So you see why I'm the pattern doctor...I have fit down to a science. And you also see why I'm Crazy in Nebraska.
As for yarn, LTK 2-ply and Bartlet's 2-ply both work well with 96 sts in the body (gauge is 18 sts over 4 inches). The kind soul who has the patience to make a pair for us would not have to use those yarns, though. That's just a starting base to go on for size. Embellishments are not my gift...so I would love to have something in a solid color with some kind of cute embellishment. But I'm already asking so much...cute embellishments may be more than I should wish for. No butterflies or flowers or anything else slightly girly - dh is big on "boy" things (if you haven't already figured that out with the bucket hat episode). :violin
And now you can see why I didn't participate last time because I thought I was too picky and whoever made them for me would probably not like me anymore. But if you understood how many things I've made and hated because they didn't fit right and how much work it's taken me to figure out what works on Ben, perhaps you might understand. :sigh:
So if there's someone who doesn't mind making a pair for us, I'm happy to participate. Embellishments aren't my talent other than maybe some simple block letters for someone's favorite team. And I will be happy to knit for someone who is hard to fit. :)
Edited to add measurements in a nutshell:
Circumference - 96 sts at 18 sts over 4 inches (whatever that comes out to)
Rise - 19" with 2" more in back than in front (8 1/2" in front, 10 1/2" in back)
Inseam - make it 8" plus a 2" cuff (10" total) in order to last all winter
Thanks!

Tana, Brody is almost the same way on the rise. I mean, a longer rise will work in the front, but it fits/looks better with the scoop. :LOL
And I was thinking, I've seen lots of cargos and capri pants with drawstrings around the leg cuffs. Wonder if that would work as a solution for Ben?? THen you wouldn't have to taper as much and you wouldn't have to do a cuff at all. You could just tie them when they were too long on him, then when they fit him better length wise, take the drawstrings out???

 This thread freaked me out a little too. :chin
I'm in if I can use the LTK Longies pattern. I can knit that one in my sleep. :) Can we have a while to get these finished? I am working on several pairs for ds right now.
I don't care if it is knit or crochet. I need 100% natural fibers(wool)and ds's measurements are: Rise-19" Waist-19" Thigh-10" Inseam-10"
I would love a simple embroidered item. I can't do it. :emb

edited to add: Ds is crawling and we would need something that would withstand the rought and tumble world of a little boy. :D

It's my first time doing something like this, too... or maybe I did a sewing/diapers one about a year ago? Anyway, I'm not sure how this will work either.
I wish I could embellish. I've tried a couple of times and it's just frustrating.

Since I don't have anyone in diapers it doesn't matter the size as long as it's GN, I"d figure a 6-12 mos size would cover a new babe no matter what time of the year it was born. :D

Niels' measurements as of 5 minutes ago are:
waist: 19.5
hip: 22 (over a pretty big diaper)
rise: 17
thigh: 11.5
inseam: 12
I prefer wool and Niels is a rough-n-tumble kinda guy, so anything that can't take lots of climbing and falling is out. Oh, also he gets very dirty outside, so natural color is out too. Am I being too picky? ;)
I don't mind if it's knit or crochet.

Okay - I was really freaked out about the whole username thing for a minute too!
I would like to join, providing the send to date is a ways away. I have a pair on the needles for dd, a pair to make for a friend and the wonderpants for the class as well.
Holden's measurements are:
Waist and hip - 21"
Rise - 17"
Thigh - 10-11"
Outseam - about 17"
** I may need to adjust these measurements if we aren't going to get the pants until November...
Holden is just learning to crawl, so we would need wool that will not be totally destroyed by tons of time on his knees. At the same time, I'd like something soft (goes without saying, but I figured 'd say it anyway, lol!). Any gn/boyish colors are fine, I prefer bold colors and fall shades. I would really love a pair in neutrals - like the mocha colorway from MM. :wowza
I'd also prefer knit.

Hi Girlies! I would love to swap!! I don't what kind of yarn as long as it's 100% wool. They would be for my little girl Ella. I don't have her measuements at this moment, so I'll post that in a bit. I am so excited! Oh, and I prefer knit.
I'd love to join, but I have two testers on my needles, a sample for licensing approval, something to do finishing work on, two more samples for licensing in the backdrop, and another several testers I'll probably be working on later. Add the instock pieces I'll be doing once the licensing gets approved, and I just don't think I can swing a swap right now. :(

Most patterns with short rows call for only three or four sets for his size - I do six, so it is a bit more. With the tapering, the pants look like the legs are straight.
I'm one of those poor souls who likes having to do something different every 4 to 6 rows. It's enough monotony to let me zone a little while I knit but enough excitement to keep me interested. So doing all those short rows and decreases is fun to me.
I need to edit my post to make the inseam longer. Once he got them on, I think they stretched side to side and got a little shorter. I wish I'd gone another inch and done two inch cuffs. These will certainly last through football season, but I'll want the added length to get through winter.

Is it ok if I participate? I have only been registered for a few days but I have 1200+ posts at MDC. I have a whole slew of yarn here from Jess at FC and Cass at HSY. I have already knit 1 pair of longies and it was pretty easy and turned out great for a first big project. If it's not ok that I join then that is cool too, I promise my feelings won't be hurt. :)
If I can participate then here:
Tristan - 9 months
size: 2 or large
waist: 17
rise: 17
thighs: 11
inseam: will add later
(I added a little so he could wear them well through the winter, we are suppose to be shipped to England so plenty of cool weather)
Preferences: Yarn ~ I prefer colored varigrated yarns in a similar or complimentary colorway. Nothing too bold, nothing pink (DH would die) or girly, I don't really care for nautral colors, but I am not totally opposed to it, I might actually like it as long as it wasn't all the same color. DS is crawling so something durable yet soft, wool. Cuffs ~ I don't care for ribbed or smaller cuffs, I would ask that the knitter use the same size needles for the cuff as for the body and do rolled or seeded, just not ribbed. I prefer they be knit in the round, or at least seams on the out side, not in between the legs. Of course any embelishment would be appreciated (since I don't really know how to do it well yet) but definitly not necessary.
EAT Knit only please. Thin yarn, I have a very light wetter so I don't care for bulky, medium weight would be ok too. Oh and I need a butt gusset, not too incrediably big but a few short rows in the back or else we always get the diaper crack. ;)
I feel like I am asking for a lot. :(
**I saw quite a few people I could knit for but there are so many inbetween posts that by the end I forget who said what, maybe I am just tired!**

If you got a pm from me, but couldn't see it, it basically said thanks for being a part of the swap and that I'll get back to you when I've got everyone matched up. However, if you asked me a specific question and you didn't get a pm from me, email me dandelions2@yahoo.com . Also, if you pm'd me, but you're not on the list, please email me cause I couldn't see your pm.

k, i have 17 mommas for the swap. Anyone interested in doing two? You'd get two in return. Or anyone want to join last minute? If not, I'll just sit this one out.
I still need to get picks from:
pageta
radish
lauira
Thanks!

Is it too late for me to join?

Nope, not too late...post your measurements and let me know who you can make for.
Thanks!

Have you considered doing a 3-way swap? Momma 1 sends to momma 2, momma 2 sends to momma 3, momma 3 sends to momma1. That way everyone can participate and no one has to do two. Just a thought. ;)

hmmm...that might work....I'll know more once I've heard from everyone. Looks like meredith wants to join...so then we're fine. It's just hard cause everyone has specific people they can make for, kwim? We'll get it all figured out though. No worries. ;)

i like the 3 way swap
no one has to sit out
and we could even do a "secret" swap, LOL, dont tell who they are coming from, that would be cool!!(or at least dont tell until they have gotten it, LOL)

Will do.
And for Jenna... she is between 18 to 19 inch rise, 18-19 inch hips, inseam 9" and thigh between 10 and 11.
And also forgot to mention.... wool is great, any colorway that... solids are fine... naturals are fine... just no gray! LOL!

Since the trend seems to be everyone wanting to make "smallish" pants, then go ahead and sign me up for largish pants  I just made a pair of larges in about 4 days, so I think I can handle them :D

Yep, it's a total surprise. Tee hee. Check out this thread: http://woolywonder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=13766#13766
That should help with deciding on what to do...and keep my pm box from filling up too quickly. ;)
