Patterns I've seen that leave little holes in the waist band for the tie to go through typically use the *k2tog yo* method. However, when I k2tog, I get this big loop from one of the stitches that is being knit together. Granted, usually it stays in back, but it still bugs me. I also forget to yo and invariably have to add stitches when I go back around after my *k2tog yo* round.
So here is the silly method that I've come up with where I don't forget to yo and I don't have little loopies on the back.
My ribbing is k2p2. I k2, then where I would bring the yarn forward to do my p2, I do my yo (I start to do the p2 then I turn it into a yo). Then I slip the next stitch PURLWISE, not knitwise. I knit the next stitch, and then I pass the slipped stitch over.
In a nutshell, *k2, yo, sl st p, k1, psso*
When I use that method, my ribbing comes out even and my little eyelets look great.
Feel free to try this and see if it works for you. :)
