I was wondering since you said you like cascade 220 if you think it holds up well over time? Does it work better for crocheting than knitting? How much would you need to make large longies?
Small soakers and shorts? The lYS I went to had a tone in about 30-40 colors and was cheap (from what I know) The colors were awesome and I wanted to get some. The knitting ladies said they don't like it and to stay away from it, BUT for crocheting soakers and shorts/longies will it work just fine? Can you tell I am a complete novice? UGH HELP!!! Thanks!!!!

Not a crocheter, so sorry to but in. But I don't think it holds up well over time. It has a strong tendency to felt, and gets rough and pilly.

not patti either, but i do crochet so i'm butting in as well :). i have a couple items i crocheted with cascade 220. the shorts used for my baby when he was an infant were fine, because he wasn't moving around much. once he started crawling, the crotch and knees got horribly felted on the pants made from it. if it's cheap and if they're for your newborn, i'd say go for it. just make sure to wash them very gently so they don't get scratchy.

I haven't knitted with it, so i can't comment on that, just crochet.

I've only been using it for about 4 months now and it's been fine. My ds doesn't crawl though - he's been walking for a while so maybe it's not as good for those crawling around? Dd is a newborn and doesn't move at all yet - so no help there either. I've used about 8oz for large pants for ds, but the inseam was only 8". You'd need more for a longer inseam cause I only had a few yards leftover. For a small soaker you'd only need a few ounces. Definitely not more than 3. You can get small shorts out of one hank.

I think it's soft and I like it, but I also think Lion Brand Fisherman's is soft. So I guess it all depends on how sensitive you are.

I love Cascade 220 for my longies and soakers also. So far so good!
